The new edition of the book 'Orixás, Yoruba Gods in Africa and the New World' comes with a new graphic design, new photos have been inserted, as well as a preface signed by Mãe Stella de Oxóssi, Ialorixá of Axé Opô Afonjá.

The book is the result of Pierre Verger's constant travels to Africa between 1948 and 1965 and presents texts and illustrations that comment and show certain aspects of the cult of the orixás, gods of the Yoruba, in their places of origin, in Africa (Nigeria, ex-Dahomey and Togo) and in the New World (Brazil and Antilles), where they were taken, for one hundred and fifty years (1700 to 1850), as slaves.

Pierre Edouard Leopold Verger (Paris, 4 November 1902 – Salvador, 11 February 1996) was a French-Brazilian self-taught photographer and ethnologist. He assumed the religious name Fatumbi.
