The 120 trees presented here are native to the State of Bahia, but also occur in other states and regions of Brazil. The proposal of this book is for wide use and a stimulating factor so that our cities, sometimes so arid, are more flowery, beautiful and pleasant, with a greater distribution of green areas, providing well-being, leisure and citizenship for all the residents.
This book is divided into two parts. The first provides information on aspects involving urban green areas: their social, environmental and aesthetic benefits, the difficulties, advantages of planting native species and problems with invasive exotic species, how to resolve conflicts with the electricity grid, in addition to guidelines to assist professionals in the planning, implementation and management of trees on urban roads.
The second part contains the main biomes of the State of Bahia: Caatinga, Cerrado, Atlantic Forest (restinga) and Campos Rupestres, and their types of vegetation. 120 native species representing these ecosystems are presented, suggested for planting in different categories of urban areas: streets, avenues, seafront, squares, gardens, parks and banks of bodies of water. For each tree, there is botanical information, seedling production and photographs (tree, trunk, leaves, fruit, flowers) that show its characteristics and facilitate the identification of the species.
